Video Instillation (2026)

This installation invites viewers into the world of a fictional character who has discovered access to an alternate dimension known as “The Realm,” a place only reachable through extreme sleep deprivation. The work immerses the audience in the character’s environment and the community of researchers and enthusiasts who have dedicated their lives to documenting and exploring this unknown world.
The installation combines video, writing, sculpture, drawing, and found-object style elements to construct a detailed fictional archive. Two video works form the centre of the piece: one presented as security camera footage recorded by the character, documenting creatures and encounters within The Realm through practical effects, masks, and puppetry; and another presented as a YouTube video created by a member of the Realm research community, playing from the character’s desk.
The surrounding space expands this fictional world through missing persons posters, fabricated articles, handwritten maps, journals, notes, and personal objects that suggest the character’s life and gradual obsession with The Realm. The installation creates the feeling of entering a lived environment and discovering the remains of someone who has become consumed by their search.
Through this work, I explore themes of obsession, disappearance, belief, and the traces people leave behind. By presenting a fictional world through the language of documentation and evidence, the installation questions where curiosity becomes obsession and how easily imagined realities can begin to feel tangible.
